Editorial Guidelines

Who We Are

Engineering Junkies is an independent digital publication dedicated to covering the world of engineering, technology, science, innovation, robotics, artificial intelligence, gadgets and the ideas that are shaping the future. We started this publication because we believe that the most exciting developments happening in the world right now are happening in labs, factories, research centers and garages and not enough people are hearing about them in a way that is easy to understand and genuinely enjoyable to read.

Our readers are curious people. Some are engineers and scientists themselves. Others are students, hobbyists, entrepreneurs or simply people who find the future fascinating. We write for all of them equally and we never talk down to our audience or drown them in jargon they did not ask for.

These editorial guidelines exist to make sure that every piece of content published on Engineering Junkies meets the standard our readers deserve and that our team is always working from the same set of principles.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple. We want to find the most interesting and important stories happening at the intersection of science, engineering and technology and tell them in a way that makes people genuinely want to keep reading. We are not chasing clicks. We are not interested in manufactured outrage or empty viral content. We are here to inform, to inspire and occasionally to blow our readers’ minds with how incredible the world of engineering and science actually is.

We believe that good journalism and great storytelling are not mutually exclusive. A well-reported article can also be a pleasure to read and that is always what we are aiming for at Engineering Junkies.

What We Cover

Engineering Junkies covers a wide range of topics that fall within the world of science, technology and innovation. Our core areas include engineering breakthroughs and innovations, technology news and product launches, artificial intelligence and machine learning developments, robotics and automation, space exploration and aerospace, gadgets and consumer electronics, renewable energy and sustainability, science discoveries and research, transport and mobility of the future and architecture and structural engineering.

We focus on stories that matter. That means we prioritize developments that have real-world implications over pure speculation and we always try to explain why a story is significant rather than simply reporting that something happened.

Our Standards for Accuracy

Accuracy is the foundation of everything we do. Before any article is published on Engineering Junkies the writer is expected to verify all claims using credible and primary sources wherever possible. This means linking to original research papers, official announcements, peer-reviewed studies, government reports or direct statements from the organizations or individuals involved in the story.

We do not publish rumors as facts. If something has not been officially confirmed we make that clear in the article. We use language like “reportedly” or “according to sources” when information has not been independently verified and we always tell readers where that information is coming from.

If we make a factual error we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted at the top of the article with a brief explanation of what was changed and why. We do not quietly edit articles and pretend the error never happened.

Sources and Attribution

Every factual claim in an Engineering Junkies article should be traceable back to a credible source. We expect our writers to link to primary sources directly wherever possible. Quoting a press release about a university study is not the same as linking to the actual study and we always try to go as close to the original source as we can.

When we quote individuals we make every effort to use their exact words and to provide enough context so that the meaning is clear. We do not paraphrase quotes in a way that changes their meaning and we do not take statements out of context.

We always credit the journalists, publications and researchers whose work we reference or build upon. Engineering Junkies does not claim credit for discoveries or reporting that originated elsewhere. If a story was first broken by another outlet we acknowledge that clearly.

Originality and Plagiarism

Every article published on Engineering Junkies must be original work. We do not copy text from other websites, publications or sources. We do not spin or lightly reword content from other outlets and present it as our own. Every piece of writing on this site should reflect the genuine effort, research and voice of the person who wrote it.

Writers who are found to have plagiarized content will have their work removed from the site immediately and will no longer be published on Engineering Junkies. We take this seriously because our readers trust us and that trust is not something we are willing to compromise.

Inspired by a story you read elsewhere? That is fine. Read it, research the topic independently, find your own sources and write something that adds genuine value beyond what already exists. That is the standard we hold ourselves to.

Fairness and Balance

When we cover a topic that involves competing viewpoints, ongoing debates or disputed findings we make a genuine effort to represent all sides fairly. We do not use our platform to push a particular agenda and we do not let our personal opinions color the factual reporting in a story.

Opinion and analysis pieces are clearly labeled as such so readers always know when they are reading a factual report versus a perspective piece. In opinion content the writer is expected to make clear that the views expressed are their own and not the official position of Engineering Junkies as a publication.

When we cover companies, products or technologies we judge them on their merits. We do not give favorable coverage to companies because they advertise with us. Our editorial decisions are made independently of our commercial relationships and always will be.

Transparency About Advertising

Engineering Junkies earns revenue through advertising including Google AdSense. Advertisements on our site are clearly distinguishable from editorial content. We do not write sponsored articles that are disguised as independent editorial coverage. If we ever publish sponsored or partner content it will always be clearly labeled so readers know exactly what they are reading.

Our writers are not influenced by advertisers in any way. No company can pay to receive positive coverage on Engineering Junkies and no company can pay to have negative coverage suppressed.

Images and Media

All images used in Engineering Junkies articles must be either original, properly licensed or sourced from providers that allow editorial use. We credit image sources clearly wherever required. We do not use images that are copyrighted without permission and we take image copyright as seriously as we take written content copyright.

If you are the owner of an image that appears on our site without proper credit or permission please contact us through our Contact page and we will resolve the issue promptly.

Corrections Policy

We are human and we occasionally make mistakes. When we do we fix them quickly and honestly. If you spot an error in any of our articles please contact us and we will review it as soon as possible. Confirmed errors are corrected and noted clearly at the top of the article. We do not delete articles to avoid accountability and we do not silently change facts without acknowledging that a correction was made.

How We Handle Sensitive Topics

Some of the topics we cover touch on areas that require extra care. This includes stories about health and medicine, environmental impact, artificial intelligence ethics, military technology and emerging technologies that have significant social implications. In these cases we take extra time to consult multiple sources, to consider the broader context and to make sure our coverage is measured and responsible.

We do not sensationalize. A headline that exaggerates the danger or promise of a new technology might get more clicks in the short term but it misleads our readers and we are not willing to do that. If a study is preliminary we say so. If a technology is years away from real-world application we say that too.
