OODA Unveils Bond Tower: Tirana’s New Skyscraper Inspired by Ballet and Albanian Heritage

OODA, a Portuguese architecture firm known for creative building designs, has revealed its new Bond Tower project in Tirana, Albania’s capital.

The design includes two tall residential towers that are linked and gently lean toward each other, almost like two dancers moving together.

The buildings have soft curves and slight twists, giving them a flowing, sculptural look in the sky. The idea is similar to New York’s American Copper Buildings, which also appear to “dance.” If built, the Bond Tower could become one of the most eye-catching landmarks in Tirana’s skyline.

Inspiration Behind the Bond Tower

The design team drew inspiration from different visual ideas including the graceful movement of a ballet dancer and the romantic feel of Gustav Klimt’s 1908 painting The Kiss.

They also wanted the building to connect with Tirana’s natural surroundings using stone cladding that can help absorb carbon for a more sustainable approach.

Each tower has its own core at the base but as they rise they gradually come together to form one unified structure which is why it is called Bond.

The soft bending shape of the towers looks like a dancer in a deep plié or two figures leaning in for a kiss giving Tirana’s skyline a striking and elegant new look.

Two Towers, One Connected Form

Although the structure is made up of two separate towers, each with its own central core, they gradually come together as they rise. This visual “bond” between the buildings is where the project gets its name.

The design creates a dramatic silhouette that shifts depending on the viewing angle. From one direction, it appears as two distinct towers, while from another, it feels like a single unified structure.

According to OODA partner Diogo Brito, the space between the towers is intentional, opening up framed views of the surrounding Albanian mountains.

Building Height and Usage

The height of the Bond Tower is unclear, but the taller structure will have 50 floors, making it a genuine skyscraper. The facade features a pattern inspired by traditional Albanian carpets and the surrounding landscape.

Residents will live on one side of the Bond Tower while hotel guests stay on the other, with office and retail spaces mixed in on various floors.

Construction Timeline and Impact on Tirana

Reports suggest that construction could begin later this year, with the project aiming for completion around 2028.

Once finished, it is expected to become one of the key developments reshaping Tirana’s skyline and strengthening its reputation as a growing hub for modern architecture.

According to OODA partner Diogo Brito, the open space between the two towers is an intentional design choice that frames views of the surrounding mountains.

Positioned at a major city avenue, the building will also appear differently depending on the angle you approach it from, giving it a shifting visual presence in the city.

Beyond its striking look, the tower’s form is also designed with practicality in mind. Its structure helps improve stability, an important consideration in a region where earthquakes can occur.

Greenery and Eco-Friendly Design

Greenery is an important part of the design, with rooftop terraces filled with native plants that help bring nature into the building.

The lower floors are planned for retail shops and offices while the middle section will include a hotel.

The upper floors will be used for apartments with balconies that add extra outdoor space.

The planting design is inspired by mountain landscapes with tougher plants placed on the higher levels to reflect high altitude vegetation and a wider variety of plants on the lower levels to represent mountain valleys.

This creates a natural flow through the building with different textures and scents that make the experience feel more connected to nature.

Bond Tower: A New Icon for Tirana

The Bond Tower is planned to be a key part of Tirana’s skyline. Its bold look and focus on eco friendly design fit well with the city’s plans for growth. As work continues, many are waiting to see this project fully built.
